Your Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Luxor: Royal Tombs and Karnak

Your journey from your hotel on the Red Sea to Luxor begins early in the morning.

Valley of the Kings

Your first stop on the West Bank of the Nile is the famous Valley of the Kings. Numerous rulers of the New Kingdom were buried here in elaborately decorated rock-cut tombs.

The standard itinerary includes admission to three of the regularly open royal tombs.

Temple of Queen Hatshepsut

Next, visit the terraced Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. Your Egyptologist will show you the reliefs depicting her famous expedition to the Land of Punt and explain the extraordinary story of this remarkable ruler.

Colossi of Memnon

A short stop takes you to the two monumental Colossi of Memnon, which once stood in front of the vast mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.

Lunch and Karnak Temple

After lunch, cross to the East Bank of the Nile and visit Karnak Temple.

The Great Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 monumental columns, is particularly impressive. Obelisks, pylons, courtyards, and the Sacred Lake reveal how Karnak developed over many generations into one of ancient Egypt’s most important religious centers.

Overnight stay in a 4-star hotel in Luxor.

Day 2 – Aswan: Philae and the Nile Landscape

After breakfast, leave Luxor and continue to Aswan.

Philae Temple

Travel by motorboat to Philae Temple on Agilkia Island.

Primarily dedicated to the goddess Isis, the temple complex was relocated to higher ground as part of an international UNESCO rescue campaign to protect it from the rising waters.

Aswan High Dam

Next, visit the High Dam and learn more about its importance to Egypt and the creation of Lake Nasser.

Unfinished Obelisk

At Aswan’s ancient granite quarry, see the Unfinished Obelisk. The monument, which remains attached to the bedrock, provides remarkable insights into the techniques the ancient Egyptians used to create their immense stone monuments.

Lunch and Felucca Cruise

After lunch, enjoy a traditional felucca cruise on the Nile and experience Aswan from the water.

In the evening, there will be time for a stroll through Aswan’s bazaar.

Overnight stay in a 4-star hotel in Aswan.

Day 3 – Abu Simbel

The journey from Aswan to Abu Simbel begins early in the morning.

Great Temple of Ramesses II

On the shores of Lake Nasser, visit the monumental rock-cut temple of Ramesses II. Its façade, dominated by four colossal seated statues, immediately conveys the temple’s immense political and religious significance.

Inside, pillared halls and richly decorated chambers lead to the sanctuary.

Temple of Queen Nefertari

Directly beside it stands the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor.

The depiction of the queen on the façade is particularly remarkable: Nefertari appears at almost the same monumental height as Ramesses II.

The Rescue of Abu Simbel

When the creation of Lake Nasser threatened the temples, they were dismantled, relocated to higher ground, and reassembled as part of an international UNESCO campaign. More than one thousand blocks were moved during the project, and the new site is approximately 64 meters higher than the original location.

Your Egyptologist will also explain the special alignment of the Great Temple and the famous Abu Simbel sun phenomenon.

After the visit, return to Aswan. Enjoy lunch there before beginning the journey back to your hotel on the Red Sea.

A Personal Tip from Our Egyptologist

17 years of experience as an Egyptologist and more than 3,000 guided tours throughout Egypt.

Pay particular attention to how the landscape and architecture change as you travel south from Luxor to Aswan. Philae and Abu Simbel also tell an important modern story: both sites were relocated as part of the international campaign to protect Nubian monuments threatened by the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
