Itinerary for Your Private Luxor Day Trip from Hurghada
The exact order of the itinerary may change slightly on the day of your trip. All booked sights remain part of the programme.
1. Private Hotel Pickup and Drive to Luxor
Pickup takes place early in the morning directly from your accommodation. For hotels in Hurghada, the usual departure time is around 05:00. Your exact pickup time depends on your resort and hotel location.
The drive from Hurghada to Luxor takes around 3.5 hours. From Makadi Bay, Soma Bay, Sahl Hasheesh or Safaga, the journey may be slightly shorter. From El Gouna, it may take a little longer.
You travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. Because only your own group is travelling, there is no long collection route around several hotels before starting the journey to Luxor.
The scenery changes noticeably along the way. After crossing the dry desert landscape, you reach the Nile Valley with its farmland, palm trees and small towns.
2. Karnak Temple with an Egyptologist
Your first major sightseeing stop in Luxor is Karnak Temple. The temple complex was expanded over many centuries and is one of the city's best-known archaeological sites.
One of its most impressive areas is the Great Hypostyle Hall with 134 columns. You can also see monumental gateways, obelisks, courtyards and the Sacred Lake.
Your Egyptologist explains the role Karnak played in Ancient Egypt and why different rulers continued to expand the complex. As the tour is private, you can ask questions directly and spend more time on the subjects that interest you most.
3. Lunch in Luxor
After visiting Karnak, it is time for lunch at a selected restaurant in Luxor.
Lunch is included in the tour price. Drinks are not included and can be ordered at the restaurant.

4. Motorboat Trip Across the Nile
After lunch, you cross the Nile by motorboat.
The journey is short but gives you a pleasant view of the river while connecting Luxor's East Bank with the West Bank. The Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon are located on the western side.
Your private vehicle will be waiting for you after the boat crossing.
5. Valley of the Kings with Three Tombs
At the Valley of the Kings, you visit three regularly open royal tombs included with the standard entrance ticket.
The tombs open to visitors can change. Your Egyptologist will explain which three tombs can be visited with the standard ticket on the day of your tour.
Inside the tombs, you can see long corridors, burial chambers, hieroglyphs and colourful wall scenes. Before you enter, your Egyptologist explains what to look for and the meaning behind many of the images.
Tutankhamun's tomb and other special tombs, such as the tomb of Seti I, require separate official entrance tickets. These tickets are not included in the tour price.
6. Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
Next, you visit the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari.
The temple stands directly in front of tall limestone cliffs and is built across several levels connected by broad ramps. During your visit, you learn more about Hatshepsut and her reign.
You have time to walk through the accessible areas and take photos.
7. Colossi of Memnon and Return Journey
Your final sightseeing stop is at the Colossi of Memnon.
The two seated statues are almost 20 metres high and represent Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Today, they stand separately in the landscape, but they originally formed part of a large mortuary temple.
The stop is shorter than the visits to Karnak or the Valley of the Kings. Afterwards, you begin the return journey to the Red Sea.
