Your Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Karnak and Luxor Temple
After your journey to Luxor, your cultural sightseeing program begins on the East Bank of the Nile.
Karnak Temple
At Karnak Temple, you will discover one of the largest religious complexes of the ancient world. Over many centuries, successive pharaohs expanded the vast temple precinct.
The Great Hypostyle Hall, with its 134 monumental columns, is especially impressive. Your Egyptologist will explain the significance of the sanctuaries, obelisks, and reliefs and show you how the complex developed throughout Egyptian history.
Lunch
Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
Luxor Temple
In the afternoon, visit Luxor Temple in the center of the city. It was once connected to Karnak by the Avenue of Sphinxes.
Several historical periods come together here: Pharaonic monuments, Roman remains, and the Abu el-Haggag Mosque, which was later incorporated into the temple complex.
Evening in Luxor
After checking in at your hotel, you can spend the evening strolling through the city center and exploring the traditional bazaar.
You will then spend the night in Luxor.
Day 2 – Luxor’s West Bank
After breakfast, the second day takes you to the necropolises and mortuary temples on the West Bank of the Nile.
You can choose between two itineraries:
Option A – Valley of the Kings and Temple of Hatshepsut
In the Valley of the Kings, you will visit three royal tombs that are open with the standard admission ticket.
Some special tombs, including those of Tutankhamun and Seti I, require separate additional tickets.
You will then visit the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. Its terraced architecture, set against steep limestone cliffs, makes it one of the most distinctive monuments on Luxor’s West Bank.
Option B – Medinet Habu and Valley of the Queens
At Medinet Habu, you will discover monumental architecture and exceptionally well-preserved reliefs dating from the reign of Ramesses III.
Afterward, visit the Valley of the Queens, the burial place of numerous queens, princes, and members of the royal family.
A separate additional ticket is required to visit the famous tomb of Queen Nefertari.
Colossi of Memnon
To conclude the sightseeing program, stop at the two Colossi of Memnon, which originally flanked the entrance to the vast mortuary temple of Amenhotep III.
Afterward, enjoy lunch. The rest of the afternoon is yours to spend at leisure.
Optional Hot-Air Balloon Ride
Before breakfast, you can begin the day with a hot-air balloon ride over Luxor’s West Bank.
The balloon ride operates only under suitable weather conditions and can be booked for an additional fee.
You will then spend another night in Luxor.
Day 3 – Abydos and Dendera
On the third day, leave Luxor and travel to two extraordinary religious sites north of the city.
Temple of Seti I at Abydos
Abydos was one of ancient Egypt’s most important religious centers and was closely associated with the cult of the god Osiris.
The Temple of Seti I is renowned for its exceptionally fine reliefs. One of its most famous features is the Abydos King List, which names numerous Egyptian rulers in chronological order and is of great importance to the study of Pharaonic history.
Temple of Hathor at Dendera
Next, visit the Temple of Hathor at Dendera, one of Egypt’s best-preserved temple complexes.
Highlights include the monumental Hathor columns, the restored ceilings with their astronomical imagery, and the temple’s detailed reliefs.
Dendera is also famous for the Dendera Zodiac. The original is now housed in the Louvre in Paris, while a replica can be seen in its original position inside the temple.
Lunch and Return Journey
After lunch, begin the return journey to your hotel on the Red Sea.
A Personal Tip from Our Egyptologist
17 years of experience as an Egyptologist and more than 3,000 guided tours throughout Egypt.
In Abydos, pay particular attention to the quality of the reliefs, and in Dendera, look closely at the restored ceilings. Their preserved colors and details make many of the scenes considerably clearer than those found in numerous other temple complexes.
