The Great Temple of Ramesses II is impressive from the moment you see its façade, which features four monumental seated statues of the pharaoh. Beside it stands the smaller temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari.
During the 20th century, the temple complex was rescued from the rising waters of Lake Nasser as part of an international UNESCO campaign and reconstructed on higher ground.

A Personal Tip from Our Egyptologist
17 years of experience as an Egyptologist and more than 3,000 guided tours throughout Egypt.
During this tour, pay attention to how architecture and religious beliefs changed across different historical periods. At Giza, you will encounter the monumental royal tombs of the Old Kingdom; in Luxor, the great temples and royal tombs of the New Kingdom; and at Edfu and Kom Ombo, important temple complexes from later periods.
This historical range is what makes the tour particularly fascinating. You will not only visit many famous sights but also gain a comprehensive understanding of different periods of ancient Egyptian history.
